Metal archway at Herne BayMetal archway used in Canterbury and coast

Police used a mobile metal detecting archway in Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay on Saturday night (27 July 2008) as part of the force’s Safer Summer campaign.

Nearly four hundred people (381) walked through the archway that was positioned at train stations in Whitstable, Herne Bay and at Canterbury West. It was also based near the Talk of the Town night club in Herne Bay for a period during the evening.

Drivers flout mobile phone law

Drivers who continue to use mobile phones at the wheel have been labelled as selfish and ignorant by a senior Canterbury police officer.

Man in court after Canterbury collision

Paul Langton (21) of Canterbury Road, Herne Bay, is due to appear before magistrates in Canterbury on 11 August 2008 charged with driving with excess alcohol.

Disqualified driver due back in court

Peter Savage (28) of Deansway Avenue, Sturry, Canterbury is due to appear before magistrates in Canterbury on 6 August 2008 charged with two counts of driving whilst disqualified, two counts of driving with no insurance, failing to provide a roadside breath test and failing to provide a specimen at a police station.

East Kent Crime Figures

Overall crime is down, with a substantial decrease in burglary. However, violent crime is up, thought to be due to increased willingness by people to come forward and report incidents.

Boy in hospital after A299 crash

Police were called to a collision on the A299 Thanet Way near Broomfield, Herne Bay, last night at 11.40pm. Four people were taken to the QEQM Hospital from one car that left the road and crashed through a fence and into a hedge.

Police appeal after lorry in collision at railway crossing

Police are appealing for witnesses after a lorry went through the barrier at the St Stephens rail crossing in Canterbury at 1pm on Friday afternoon.

People using or dealing in drugs is the biggest anti-social behaviour worry for shoppers in Canterbury town centre.

A police operation to disrupt the supply of drugs in the Canterbury area has been carried out resulting in nine arrests following the search of five homes and premises.

A man has been sent to prison for 80 days after punching a police officer in the face in a Canterbury park.

Woman and baby to hospital after collision

A collision involving two cars, a Volvo and Kia, was reported to police just before 7pm on Saturday night (12 July 2008). Both cars were travelling in same direction on A299 coastbound when the collision was reported near the petrol station at Dargate.

Dog owners warned

Irresponsible dog owners in Canterbury’s parks are being targeted by regular joint patrols by the police community support officer for open spaces and Canterbury City Council staff.

Man charged after van turns over at Whitstable

Police called to a report that a van had turned on to its side near the Whitstable slip road off the A299 Thanet Way at 5am on Saturday (12 July 2008) arrested the driver.
