Man arrested in Whitstable post office
Police officers called to a report that torch light had been spotted in the post office in Church Street, Whitstable, at 12.30am this morning (Monday 21 April 2008) found a man hiding in the roof space.
The 29-year-old Whitstable man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently being questioned at Canterbury police station.
Crash in St John’s Road, Whitstable
Police are investigating after a car was in collision with a lamp post and wall in St John’s Road, Whitstable on Saturday night (19 April 2008).
Witnesses saw the driver run away from the scene and officers are investigating that the car was taken without the owner’s consent.
Drivers charged with drink driving
As police officers were closing the road for a car to be recovered in St John’s Road, Whitstable, following the incident above early on Sunday morning (20 April 2008) a driver was stopped on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol.
Sally-Ann Sutton (55) of Maidstone Road, Gillingham, was arrested and charged later in the day with driving whilst above the legal limit for alcohol. She is due to appear in court on Monday 7 May 2008.
John Parker (39) of Warwick Road, Canterbury, is due to appear in court on Thursday 1 May 2008 charged with driving with excess alcohol. He was stopped by police in Artillery Street, Canterbury, on Friday afternoon (18 April 2007).
Money stolen from Austrian student
A 15-year-old Austrian student had £30 stolen after he and a friend were tricked into following a man to a money exchange in Canterbury.
The two visitors were near McDonalds in the High Street when a man asked them for a light for his cigarette at about 6.30pm on Friday night (18 April 2008). The two then asked the man where they could exchange money and he suggested they follow him. Another man joined and they were taken to Dane John Gardens where a third man came up to the group.
The boy got out his wallet and one of the men took money from it and then walked off but the boys were too worried to follow them.
The men were aged between 18 and 22. The man who asked for a light was wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a can of beer, the second man was wearing a black t-shirt with a grey pattern and the third was wearing a waist-length light coloured jacket with a fur collar.

Fire extinguisher sprayed at student
Police have appealed for witnesses after a 23-year-old university student had his cheekbone fractured and was sprayed with a fire extinguisher near Toddler’s Cove off Whitehall Bridge Road, Canterbury.
The student was treated at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital for the injuries to his face and the after effects of the spray following the incident at about 7.15pm on Saturday 12 April 2008.
The student and his girlfriend were sitting on swings in the play park when four boys beckoned them over to the bridge by pretending to ask for help. They were sprayed when they went over and then chased to the toilets by the group who caught up with the two and punched and kicked the student. The group had three fire extinguishers with them.
One of the boys is described as 15 to 17, with short gelled blond hair and wearing a light blue jumper with navy stripes. He was slim and shorter than the rest of the group. Another was noted to have a diamond earring and very short hair with a line shaved into it and the other two were wearing grey hooded tops.

Teenager assaulted in Whitstable
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 14-year-old Whitstable boy was assaulted as he got off a bus in the town’s Tankerton Road.
The boy had caught the bus at 6.45pm on Wednesday 2 April 2008 at the bowling alley in Whitstable and during the journey two older boys threatened him and followed him as he got off.
The boy remembers only a little of what happened next but a car driver spotted him being kicked as he was lying on the ground and stopped to help him. The boy had to be taken to hospital and was kept in overnight for observation.
One of the boys is aged about 17, 6ft1ins tall, slim build, wearing a white top and a white woolly hat. The other was the same age but shorter, approximately 5ft 5ins tall, with blond, spiky hair and carrying a white Nike bag.
