Man charged after Canterbury robberies
Dean Richards (25) of no fixed address is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday3 March 2008. He was charged on 21 February 2008 with the robbery of a handbag from a 43-year-old Canterbury woman in Abbot's Barton Walk on Thursday 7 February 2008 and appeared at Canterbury Magistrates Court last Friday (22 Febuary 2008). He was remanded in custody. A 20-year-old man of no fixed address, also arrested in connection with the robberies is on bail until 4 March 2008
Man in court for breaching sexual offence prevention order
A 46-year-old Canterbury man appeared before magistrates on Saturday (23 February 2008) and was remanded in custody after police spotted him wearing a woman’s scarf and thereby breaching a sexual offences prevention order made at Maidstone Crown Court in May 2007 prohibiting him from carrying an item of women’s clothing in public. Paul Reed of Lancaster Road was arrested in Wincheap on Friday morning (22 February 2008) and will appear again before magistrates in Canterbury on Thursday (28 February 2008).
London man charged with car offence
Stephen Irons (53) of Crutchley Road, Catford, is due to appear before magistrates in Canterbury on 10 March 2008 charged with interfering with a Ford Fiesta car parked in Zealand Road, Canterbury, on 4 November 2007.
Arrests after bus station fight
Police arrested two boys and two girls from Herne Bay after they were alerted by CCTV operators to a fight near the bus station in Canterbury city centre at 10.50pm on Friday (22 February 2008). A 15-year-old girl was issued for a reprimand for being drunk and disorderly. Another girl aged 14 and boys aged 17 and 18 were released on bail until 13 March 2008 pending a Crown Prosecution Service decision to prosecute.
Collisions attended by Police
- In Thanington Road, Canterbury, yesterday (25 February 2008) at 7.45am a tipper van, Peugeot 206 and Landrover Freelander were in collision. A 51-year-old man who was a passenger in the van was taken to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford but his injuries were not described as serious.
- In Faversham Road, Seasalter, on Sunday (24 February 2008) at 9.55am a motorcycle and car were in collision. The 41-year-old motorcyclist was thrown into the ditch and he was taken to the QEQM Hospital with a fractured leg. The car involved was a Ford Maverick.
- In Sturry Road, Canterbury, on Saturday (23 February 2008) a 27-year-old moped rider was taken to the QEQM Hospital with leg injuries after his moped and a Nissan car collided.
Witness appeal
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 36-year-old Whitstable man was punched in the face and had his mobile phone stolen as he met a friend near the Londis Stores and church hall in Faversham Road, Seasalter.
The man believes that three men were involved and it is believed they may have left the scene in a dark coloured Rover Metro car after the incident just before 7pm on Friday 25 January 2008.
