Canterbury man charged with burglary
Lee Kennelly (24) formerly of The Avenue, Hersden, and a number of addresses in the Canterbury area is due to appear before magistrates in Margate today charged with burglaries in Whitstable and Margate.
He was charged last night (Monday 28 April 2008) with breaking into a flat off Borstal Hill in Whitstable on Sunday (27 April 2008) and stealing a video camera, digital camera, laptop computer and mobile phone. The keys to a Vauxhall Corsa car were also taken and this vehicle was later found in Artillery Road, Ramsgate.
The Margate burglary was on 25 August 2007 when £1400 cash was taken form Kent Auto Care in Upper Grove.
Arrests in the Chartham area
Following complaints about criminal damage in the Chartham area police have made a number of arrests.
Officers from Canterbury’s rural neighbourhood team and Special Constables recently patrolled in plain clothes in the village at night into the early hours of the morning. Special attention was paid to areas where cars have been damaged and windows broken.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested and charged with the possession of cannabis and appeared before magistrates last week where he was made subject of a three month parenting order.
Two 14-year-old boys were arrested last Wednesday (23 April 2008) in Beech Avenue, Chartham Downs, after young people were seen throwing stones at cars and smashing a window. They were released on bail pending further inquiries until 30 April 2008.
Child in Herne Bay collision
A four-year-old girl was taken to the QEQM Hospital at Margate yesterday (28 April 2008) after she was involved in a collsion with a car in Streetfield, Herne Bay.
The collision happened just after 3pm and it is understood the child received bruises and cuts to her leg but was not seriously injured.
Three charged with lead thefts
Three Canterbury men are due to appear in court on Thursday 8 May 2008 charged with stealing lead from a roof in St Stephen’s Road, Canterbury.
They are Lee Wilson (19) of Charollais Close, Canterbury, Leon Keown (19) also of Charollais Close and Jack Hilding (18) of Reed Avenue, Canterbury. A fourth man arrested was release without charge.
Fight in Herne Bay
Officers called to a disturbance in Kings Road, Herne Bay, early on Saturday morning (26 April 2008) arrested a 24-year-old Herne Bay man.
Those living nearby reported a large scale fight that was believed to have spilled out from a nearby licensed premises.
When officers arrived they broke up a fight between three people. The man was arrested for public order offences and has been released on bail until 8 May 2008 pending further police inquiries.
Witness appeal after student’s nose broken
A 19-yearold student from the University of Kent had his nose broken in an assault in Upper Bridge Street, Canterbury.
The man was with friends when they were approached by a group. One of the group appeared to come up to the 19-year-old to shake his hand but instead punched him, knocking him to the ground and then punched him in the face. The student needed treatment at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. Another member of the group received minor injuries.
The attacker is described as about 18, stocky build, short, black, gelled hair and about 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing a short- sleeved light blue shirt with dark blue stripes and blue jeans.
The assault happened on Saturday 19 April 2008 and Det Con Ellen Cartwright is keen to hear from any witnesses who were in the area near the Flying Horse public house at about 11pm. She can be contacted on 01227 744787.
Stolen tree and shrub appeal
Police officers have asked the community to contact them if they are offered trees or shrubs following a theft from a farm in Chislet earlier this month.
The 14, three metre high maple and hornbeam trees and 10 laurel shrubs were taken from an area being landscaped and reported stolen last week.

Appeal after Japanese students kicked by woman
Two 18-year-old Japanese students were kicked in the legs by a woman demanding change in St Dunstans Street, Canterbury.
The incident happened on Sunday 20 April 2008 at about 4.45pm and police are appealing for anyone who saw the woman to contact them. She is described as aged 30 to 40, 5ft 10insa tall wearing blue jeans and a dirty looking long Khaki jacket. She had blonde, untidy hair.

Drink drive arrests
Craig Kennedy (20) of Sherwood Drive, Whitstable,is due to appear before magistrates in Canterbury on Monday 12 May 2008 charged with driving with excess alcohol after he was stopped by police in St Andrews Close, Whitstable, early on Saturday morning (26 April 2008).
Also due to appear before magistrates on 12 May is Paul Moat (19) of Mount Road, Rochester, who was charged with driving with excess alcohol after he was arrested in Military Road, Canterbury.
Douglas McNicholl (69) of Herne Bay Road, Canterbury, is due to appear before magistrates on Thursday 8 May 2008 charged with driving with excess alcohol after he was stopped by police in Broad Oak Road, Canterbury.
Appeal for owner of bike

The bike was found in an alleyway off Mickleburgh Hill, Herne Bay, at the end of March during an investigation into the theft of bikes in the town.
A 15-year-old from Whitstable has been arrested on the suspicion of the theft of the bike and is currently on police bail pending further inquiries.
